Off-Campus Service Opportunity: Help Combat Hunger -Breakthrough Manna Ministry (Meal Service)

Bus departs Wabash Lobby 9 a.m. to Breakthrough Men’s Center (402 N. St. Louis Ave) and returns 1 p.m.

With a mission to “partner with those affected by poverty to build connections, develop skills and open doors of opportunity,” Breakthrough is a nonprofit community organization that supports the needs of people in the community through education & youth development, workforce development, housing, health & wellness, violence prevention and spiritual formation. RU volunteers will serve lunch to the residents of the men’s and women’s centers. Comfortable clothing and shoes required. Volunteers will be divided into two groups to prepare a meal for residents and fellowship with them. This opportunity is limited to 24 people.


Off-Campus Service Opportunity: Lakeview Pantry Assistance

Bus departs Wabash Lobby 9 a.m. to the Hub (5151 N. Ravenswood) and returns 1 p.m.

Volunteers will help organize, unload and sort through donations of food at Lakeview Pantry Warehouse. Lakeview Pantry is committed to helping its neighbors overcome hunger and mental illness and achieve life goals. The warehouse’s functionality is critical to the success of Lakeview Pantry. Inventory items will be sorted, pulled to be sent to Lakeview Pantry’s other locations and loaded into vans. Closed-toed shoes are required. Volunteers are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing — something that can get a little messy. Visit their website to learn more about Lakeview Pantry: https://www.lakeviewpantry.org/

On-Campus Service Opportunity: Assemble Hygiene Kits and Disburse in the Loop

9 a.m.–1 p.m. | WB 317

Volunteers will assist in assembling hygiene kits (includes toothbrush, toothpaste, hand sanitizer, wet wipes, etc.). Completed kits will be distributed among the Chicago homeless community via shelters and some shared with RU’s Food and Hygiene Pantry. Volunteers will meet in WB 317, 9 a.m.–1 p.m.


Chicago Campus Service Opportunity: Roosevelt University’s United Nations Association and Roosevelt University ONE.org Chapter

9 a.m–12 p.m | Fainman Lounge

With a mission of ending global poverty and improving global health, Roosevelt University’s United Nations Association and Roosevelt University’s ONE.org chapter join Professor La Vonne Downey in our efforts to address global poverty, health, education and development. We will write letters and make calls to our Senators to support full funding of the International Affairs Budget. Currently, the International Affairs Budget makes up only a mere 1 percent of the U.S. federal budget, but impacts all aspects of life in America.

On-Campus Service Opportunity: Window Washing

10 a.m.–4 p.m. | Schaumburg Campus

Join us in making our Schaumburg Campus a beautiful place to learn and work. RU student volunteers will help clean windows in campus buildings and facilities. Comfortable clothing and shoes are encouraged.

Grab a friend and register for one of the following two-hour time slots:

  • 10 a.m.–12 p.m.
  • 12–2 p.m.
  • 2–4 p.m.

At least four volunteers are needed for each time slot.


On-Campus Service Opportunity: Garbage Pickup

10 a.m.–4 p.m. | Schaumburg Campus

Join us in making our Schaumburg Campus a beautiful place to learn and work. RU student volunteers will work together to clean up trash throughout the campus grounds. Comfortable clothing and shoes are encouraged.

Grab a friend and register for one of the following two-hour time slots:

  • 10 a.m.–12 p.m.
  • 12–2 p.m.
  • 2–4 p.m.

Each time slot is limited to 20 people.


Schaumburg Off-Campus Event: Feed Our Starving Children

12 p.m.–2 p.m. | 740 Wiley Farm Court, Schaumburg, IL 60173

Our hands are essential in the fight against world hunger – we make it possible for Feed Our Starving Children to keep sending nutritious meals to starving kids worldwide. Please join us in packing food for children in our fight against hunger.

*Please arrive 15 minutes early, no jewelry or open toed shoes.
